There are many ways to can get involved with and promote progressive causes and push back against far right extremism in the San Gorgonio Pass area, from simply helping neighbors in need to participating in the local political arena and everywhere in between. Make art or music. Volunteer with kids in need. Give a homeless neighbor a meal. Remind your LGBTQ neighbors of your support. Donate to a local food bank. Run for office. Attend a protest. Highlight bigotry and hate in your area. Big or small, all efforts make an impact.
With active attacks from the Federal government trying to erase and criminalize transgender and other LGBTQ people, now more than ever we need to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ neighbors. In many cases, their lives are in our hands. A phone call, a hug, a meal, a job - any show of genuine support, affirmation, or love can help save someone's life. Do your part!
Mutual aid means helping neighbors for the common good by providing meals, goods, skills, solidarity, support, emergency aid, and more, freely and with no strings attached. We increase the impact of and strengthen these connections by forming or joining Mutual Aid pods and networks.
Many families and elderly neighbors in the Pass area are in need of assistance. See our list of local organizations that help the underprivileged and are looking for volunteers or donations. Every little bit helps.
Art and music are powerful forces for good. Through them we can lift up and empower each other and our causes, or deflate far right hysteria and lies with a wink and a nod. High skill, low skill, it doesn't matter. Make art. Make it public.
Small groups of about 5 people make all the decisions that affect the direction of our cities and schools. You can make an impact too. Keep up to date on local politics. Watch or attend city council and school board meetings. Contact your local representatives. Share what you learn with your connected communities.
Attend or organize a protest, march, or sit-in. Counter-protest. Boycott a company. Form or support a union. Make and/or hand out flyers. Make and/or put up posters or stickers. Write a social media post, an article, or a book. Share local progressive information on social media. Campaign for a candidate you believe in. Donate or volunteer for a progressive non-profit or other group.
